POP ART & COMICS
from January 29th toFebruary 10, 2020
RINASCENTE - CATANIA
POP-ART AND COMICS is an exhibition that displays around 50 works and offers the opportunity to revisit the work done by Umberto Gagliano on everything that encompasses his innate passion for American comic book representations of the “Golden Age”, the period between the 50s and the 70s.
Everything went hand in hand, from newsstands to the most important modern art galleries in an explosion of images, shapes and colours, expressions of POP-ART.
In the path of this exhibition, the artist's "need" to represent in large dimensions the faces of the comic book characters of the time is evident.
Faithfully reproduces the covers and first pages of superhero comics as a tribute to the great artists: Jack Kirby, John Romita Sr. and John Buscema.
The artist, influenced by authors such as “Roy Lichtenstein”, an exponent of American Pop Art with “Ben-Day” dotted techniques, gives rise to some works from his collection “VIVA S.AGATA - CATANIA IN POP-ART”, in a “mash-up” between more or less well-known faces from comics and the settings of the area in which he lives.
The interpretation of Umberto Gagliano's works helps to understand his work as an evolving process aimed at the search for an identity.
